Lola was picked up stray on November 4, 2004 by Animal Services. She had a skin condition and was offered to rescue instead of being put into the adoption kennel. Sunshine PWCC took her on December 9, 2004 at which time her skin problem had cleared. Lola was brought to St. Petersburg where her foster family noticed that she was drinking and urinating very frequently. Although Collier County had made no mention and apparently ran no tests, a blood profile at Northeast Animal Hospital in St. Pete confirmed very high blood sugar indicative of diabetes. Lola also had untreated yeast infections in both ears, and was limping in her right rear leg. Radiographs of the hips and rear legs showed somewhat degraded joint condition (5 on a scale of 10) unusual for a dog her age and likely due to arthritis. The right knee showed this more noticeably than the left. These issues were treated while in foster care. On December 30, 2004, during a follow-up blood sugar test, her vet noticed a swelling of Lola’s jaw on the left side. Radiographs showed no dental problems or tumors. A closer inspection of the jaw while Lola was under anesthesia revealed a cut in the inside of the jaw that had become infected, most likely from something sharp that she’d tried to chew on such as a stick from the yard. She is currently taking antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medicine for this problem.
Lola does not get along with all other dogs and there have been some fights between her and another foster in the household. Lola is very tolerant of children and adults.
Lola would be best in a household with no other pets. She seems drawn mostly to women although she does take a liking to whoever is feeding her (as do most Corgis).
CorgiAid supporters helped get Lola’s health needs stabilized so she can look for that forever home where she can be a pampered only dog. Thank you!
