The Story of Momma Milan

Last Updated: October 04, 2005

Rescuer: Katja Liendgens at kliendgens@yahoo.com

Shortly after we had moved into the neighborhood, we noticed Momma and her companion (her puppy from several litters ago). The neighbors told us that Momma had been a stray for years, had given birth to many litters, and that nobody had been able to get close to her. Over several months, we gained her trust by feeding her daily. It turned out that Momma was pregnant. She gave birth to two puppies underneath our neighbor’s house. One puppy died. We rescued the other one and fostered him until he was adopted through SmallDog Rescue.
We were finally able to catch Momma. The first two weeks, she was extremely scared, but with time and lots of TLC, she has become a sweet and playful little girl, who is basking in all the attention she is getting.
A week after her spaying, she had major complications from her surgery and had to have an emergency surgery. Now that she has recovered from the ordeal, she is going through her heartworm treatment.
She is a remarkable little lady with an amazing spirit. She gives fly-by kisses when she is very happy. It has been very rewarding for us to see how much she appreciates regular access to food and water, attention, and petting. She has recently discovered playing with toys for the first time in her life!
CorgiAid supporters will help with Momma’s extraordinary medical expenses. Thank you!
