Zippy

Here is Zippy’s story:
“Zippy was a puppymill production worker. Recently his production numbers went down and he and 4 of his co-workers were fired, and found themselves at the shelter with instructions to put them down. Fortunately, the ACO there knew good dogs when he saw them and called rescue. Zippy needed a dental, removal of 12 of his teeth, and removal of the tools of his trade. We were concerned by his apparent fatigue (sleeps alot) and the color and smell of his urine. A urine sample revealed a severe bladder infection so he’s being treated for that. Fortunately, he is heartworm free and is overall pretty healthy considering where he came from. After what appeared to be (judging from his smell and his reaction to water), his first bath, Zippy is learning to be a dog in his foster home. He’s learned to use the doggy door and that grass and carpeting are nice underfoot. He is carefully studying his housemates’ activities. Toys and play are all very new to him, and most of the time he watches them run and bark outside from the kitchen window. One day he might just join them.”

We are all hoping the day comes, soon, when he decided to join the other dogs’ running and barking.

UPDATE, April 4, 2010: Zippy has been adopted, and his life has really turned around. After leash training sessions with me and the adoptive family, Zippy now joins his family of 2 adult humans, 2 boy humans, two JRTS and a three-legged Labrador on daily walks. He’s come out of his shell, and has become quite the lap dog. He is a cherished member of the family.
