Here is Holly’s story, in the words of her rescuer:
“Holly came to us from a young couple with two small children. They did not have the time or finances to deal with her reoccurring bladder infections or incontinence.
“This little girl loves everyone! Although over 10 years old, she runs the house. She plays ball and Frizbee. Everyone who meets her loves her, including her doctors. And she is the leader of the senior pack.
“Holly’s urethra simply no longer functions. She leaks urine all of the time. We have communicated with Dr. Barges at the University of TN regarding a urethral bulking surgery. Unfortunately the surgery cannot be done if there is any bacteria present. Every month Holly has an ultra sound and a culture. She is finally free of crystals in her urine, but every month she has a different bacterial/staph infection. Culture results are returned with suggestions for antibiotics for that particular bacteria. Every month she has been on a different drug. We get rid of one and the next month she has another. The veterinary specialist, including Dr. Barges, do not seem to have any answers. Her urethra is large and therefore open to types of bacteria. We keep her bottom shaved hoping that this will reduce the bacteria.”
