The Story of Skipper |
Last Updated: August 31, 2012
As much as we all wish every rescue story could have a happy ending, reality is sadly different.
Tissue alert…..
Here is Skipper’s story, in the words of her rescuer:
“I received a call from a boarding Kennel/Grooming facility in Southern Illinois asking me to take a Corgi girl. The owner was in the hospital, and one his way to hospice. He would not be coming for the Corgi. He ask the groomer to find a rescue. I was told that the girl was good with children and other dogs and a sweetheart. The groomer than told me that the girl was having a bit of a problem breathing. I ask her to please take the girl to the vet and we would pay the bill. A few days later the girl called to tell me that the Corgi couldn’t walk and was having trouble breathing. She had not taken her to the vet. I immediately left to get the girl. 90 minutes later when I arrived at the kennel, the Corgi, Skipper, was on the floor of a kennel run, not moving, couldn’t get up, and could hardly breath. She had urinated on herself and drool was coming from her mouth. I rushed to put her in the car begging her to keep breathing. I propped a pillow under her head and immediately began phoning for the closest ER Clinic while driving 75 mph on the highway. I found a clinic and called, told them the situation, and they stayed on the line until I arrived. Waiting at the ER door, a tech grabbed the little girl and we rushed into room. They immediately applied an oxygen mask. Although x-rays were done, blood was drawn, and more, we could not save her. I’ve been doing rescue for many many years. This is without a doubt the most emotional and sad situation that I have ever been involved with.”
CorgiAid supporters will help Skipper’s heart-broken rescuer with the expense of taking care of Skipper in her last hours. Thank you.
