The Story of Wendell |

Here is Wendell’s story, in the words of his rescuer:
“Wendell came to Colorado from a New Mexico shelter. Foster picked him up and noticed coughing/gagging. Took to vet next day. Was given cerenia, antibiotics, and dewormed. Coughing, hacking continued; returned to vet where blood work was normal, x-rays did not indicate anything conclusion. Took to a different vet as symptoms worsened. more x-rays and antibitoics. Took back to original vet who took more x-rays and did a barium study which revealed blockage, stricture and/or megaesophagus and pneumonia. Vet recommended endoscopy so returned to the vet. That vet diagnosed Wendell with megaesophagus and pneumonia as well and hospitalized him for 3 days.”
Megaesophagus is a condition where the esophagus does not work properly, making correct swallowing much more difficult. If animals with megaesophagus are kept in an upright position (head higher than stomach) while eating, and for a while after eating, they can live happy lives.
CorgiAid supporters have helped Wendell with his diagnosis and emergency care, and are keeping an eye on him as he learns his new mealtime routine, and begins to gain appropriate weight. (He was skin and bones when he came to Colorado.) Thank you!
