Here is Banks’s story: Banks was surrendered into rescue with his litter mate Derby by their owner when she was no longer able to care for them. Banks and Derby are bonded brothers. Both had numerous growths on them. Banks had a mast cell tumor (MCT) removed when in foster care. Once adopted, he required surgery to remove new two growths adjacent to the location of the previous MCT on his left side. These were identified as more aggressive MCTs, one of which metastasized into a lymph node. Banks was also tentatively diagnosed as having had hemangiosarcoma following removal of his spleen (in a second surgery) due to a cavitated splenic mass. This surgery was necessary to inform the selection of an oncology protocol to address the MCT diagnosis. Banks’ oncologist thinks he is a good candidate for chemotherapy, as he is healthy (except for the early stage cancer) and has shown minimal signs of metastasis.
