The Story of Apex

Last update 02/13/2023
Apex’s mom had to go to assisted care at the age of 80 years old after falling and breaking her shoulder. She was able to take both her dogs with her. Apex had issues with only being taken for a walk once a day and was marking in the apartment. Being a Corgi, he also started having very vocal opinions about EVERYTHING!! So either Apex left, or the whole family, Mom and 16 year old other dog, not a Corgi, would be evicted. His mom’s family couldn’t/wouldn’t take in Apex so they contacted rescue. Apex had an exam, routine tests and preventative treatments on intake. It was determined that he had weight control issues, a bum knee (due to weight bearing) and he had been born with a liver shunt and had surgery as a puppy. He was limping slightly when he came in and upon exam, the vet found a partial ACL tear, he is being treated with Cold Laser, pain management and weight loss, he is also on an hepatic diet and is doing well now. Apex barks at other dogs in his foster home IF he is in his crate, but once out and among them, he is quiet and happy and ignores them. It was also determined that his mom had been overfeeding him treats, and is quickly losing weight on his new diet and moderate treat plan.
