The Story of Chase

Last update 05/22/2023
Not every story has a happy ending. Rescue was contacted by a shelter staff member regarding a sight impaired dog surrendered when the owner was no longer able to care for him. Being blind, the shelter felt he would not be adoptable, and he was frightened in that setting. Chase was a Corgi-mix who presented with multiple health issues. A consult with an ophthalmologist showed his vision could not be restored with surgery, and drops were needed to provide relief from discomfort until surgical intervention would be needed to either remove the eyes, or perform an ablative therapy. Unfortunately, Chase had intermittent bloody diarrhea, an ultrasound showed multiple areas of cancerous growth throughout his body, especially in his bowel. Chase was put on comfort care so he would live in comfort until he could no longer enjoy quality of life. Up until that day, he had been eating, playing, and enjoying his life in his foster home in spite of his blindness. Chase was loved and cared for until it was time to set him free.
