The Story of Sophia |
Last update 07/21/2023
Sophia was rescued from a rural shelter in July 2020. She tested positive for heartworms, and was in poor shape. After her treatment for heartworms, Sophia continued to have respiratory complications, likely due to a high burden and long-standing infestation of heartworms prior to rescue. She subsequently had bouts of pancreatitis, and has had a slow decline in her renal function. She also has arthritis in her hip and has been treated with laser therapy, as her renal function means she can’t manage NSAIDS. Sophia needed dental care, tests, vaccines and the regular maintenance treatments. Due to her residual respiratory issues from heartworms, as well as recurrent bouts of pancreatitis and declining renal function, Sophia will remain a forever foster.
