Sweety

Here is Sweety’s story, in the words of her rescuer:
“I found a small dog laying on the right side of the east bound lanes of Royal Lane in North Dallas, on Monday Oct 21, 2013 evening about 630 PM. Some passerbys had stopped and blocked the lane from traffic to protect her. I stopped to offer help. The passerbys told me animal control and police had been called. She had no collar, but wasn’t emaciated nor in terrible or neglected condition. A later vet scan revealed no chip. She lay on the side of the road close to the curb, alert but not moving. The primary witness said she was hit front side by a car, rolled underneath it, and came out behind it, tried to get up and run, but collapsed and lay where she was when I drove up.
“I knew with animal control enroute she most likely would NOT receive proper medical care and I had to do something for her…I knew she was worth saving. I went and got a blanket to cover her up, as she was shivering badly. I googled the nearest vet hospital and called them. They asked if I would take responsibility; I said yes. So the other passerbys helped me pick her up in the blanket and carefully moved her to my vehicle, and took her to VCA Metroplex Animal Hospital in Irving TX.
“Upon examination she was able to put weight on her from legs and rear left leg – the right one is clearly damaged badly.
“The vet is confident it’s her femur and hip.
“UPDATE (October 25, 2013)
“She is now at O’Conner Animal Hospital. She has the broken femur still and now a hernia in her left groin that also needs surgery. She is scheduled for surgery on Tuesday October 29 to repair the femur, repair the hernia, and spay her. Her femur is so badly damaged that a special metal plate has been ordered for her. Thus the wait on her leg repair.
“She is now able to eat canned food, will drink water after eating, and can stand on her own power on her three good legs. Her strength is coming back and she can walk around!! Unfortunately, after efforts to post her as LOST on area websites, and reports to both the Dallas and Irving police departments, no one has stepped forward to claim her.
“The wonderful news is that I have found her an adopter from Virginia, who is in love with her story and lost her own Corgi companion earlier this year. So the adopter is making arrangements with a nonprofit to transport her, following her foster period to heal after surgery. I have yet to secure a Foster home but that is also getting very close to being settled. Little Sweety have a secure future once she gets her surgery. She is wonderful and a blessing.”
