| The Story of Lucas |

Here is Lucas’s story, in the words of his rescuer:
“I received a call from a man who found a ‘girl Corgi’ in the woods while deer hunting. He said that there was something hanging from her stomach. He was located six hours from my home. I called friends closer to the location. They picked her up and took her to the ER in their town. The clinic called and told me that the dog was dehydrated, malnourished, and blood work was not good. They also told me that ‘she’ was a ‘he’ and that he had undescended testicles. The ‘something hanging down from the stomach’ was actually a testicle caught in the abdominal wall. I asked them to provide antibiotics and fluids and I would send someone to get him.
“Two days later when he was stable I ask my friends to pick him up and meet me half way. I picked him up and took him directly to our specialty clinic. He was again put on meds, fluids, and pain meds. The next morning our surgeon called and told me that although blood work still wasn’t the best, he was going in. Late that night he called to tell me that one testicle was the size of a baseball and one the size of an orange. Lymph nodes looked fine. He was 99% sure that it was cancer in the testes. Pathology came back with Sertolli Cell Carcinoma. Our surgeon assured me that he got all of both testicles.
“Lucas’s lungs looked good. He said that the prognosis was very good. In six months his nipples would be receded, they were all over an inch long, and his hair coat should all be normal. He came in with very little hair. The vet suggested a x-ray of the lungs in six months, but he expects no more cancer.”
Thank goodness for Lucas that kindly person helped him when he was lost in the woods, and thank goodness his prognosis is so good now!
