The Story of Maverick

Last update 09/25/2023
Sadly, not all rescue stories have a happy ending, it can be heartbreaking.
Maverick was surrendered to Corgi rescue with his housemate Gemma. Their owners told rescue they were moving and couldn’t take the dogs with them. Sadly, it was learned that they did make arrangements for another dog to be moved with them. Maverick was placed with a foster caregiver with the hope of adopting him. They were excited as they had recently lost their own Corgi.
Maverick was taken in for an initial exam, blood work, heartworm test, and urinalysis. Other than a dental, Maverick was found to be in good health. He was scheduled for a routine neuter. Preanesthetic blood work noted normal parameters. Sadly, Maverick had a reaction to the anesthesia almost immediately after being put under. Anesthesia was immediately stopped and CPR and epi were administered for over 10 minutes. His heart rate came back up once, but he never responded again after that. Post chest and abdominal X-rays were taken which showed nothing remarkable. The vet and the entire staff were devastated.
