James Allen “Jim” Dettinger
MADISON – James Allen “Jim” Dettinger, age 50, passed away Aug. 19, 2016 at Agrace HospiceCare in Madison, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Jim was born to Glenn and Ruth (Hockman) Dettinger on Aug. 24, 1965 in Wausau.
Jim attended Wausau West High School and graduated from University of Wisconsin-Madison with a degree in sociology, and later completed additional course work in computer operations at Madison College. He was united in marriage to Laura Cwiertniak on Aug. 6, 2000 in Madison. Jim worked in computer operations at Great Lakes Higher Education Corp. His love of information and learning included all things electronic, cars, travel, beers of the world, and following the news. He was a true pathfinder who enjoyed driving country roads and secretly wanted to be a racecar driver. His enjoyment of music led him to meet his wife and took them on shared concert adventures around the world.
Above all, there was a special place in his heart for his corgi, Koko.
He was known as many things to many people, such as rebellious punk, clever imp, helpful Mr. Fixit, generous hugger, animated wit and food whisperer. He was well and truly loved, and not a day will go by without someone remembering him with a smile.
Jim was preceded in death by his father; brother, Steven; and father-in-law, Rick Seyfarth.
He is survived by his super wife; mother; brothers, Thomas (Tami) and William (Barbara Glinski); sister-in-law, Victoria List; mother-in-law, Patricia Seyfarth; brother-in-law, Will (Tara) Cwiertniak; and aunts, uncles and nephews.
A private celebration of Jim’s life will be planned for family and friends. A world of thanksto the wonderful people of Carbone Cancer Center and Agrace HospiceCare. Memorials may be made to Agrace HospiceCare or CorgiAid.
