Owner turned into shelter, we were contacted by shelter volunteer to accept dog into our program.
Feather is gentle and appropriate with animals and people. She has a lovely disposition, and an impish personality!
Feather came to us in such very poor condition that we felt she needed to be assessed right away before transporting her to St. Louis – our volunteer in Springfield MO was able to have her own vet examine her and start needed care immediately. She then came to St. Louis for further vet care and addressing medical needs. She presented with large mammary tumors which we were concerned could be cancerous, tooth and gum disease, bloody vaginal discharge, ears dirty and infected, whipworms, heartworms, was vomiting and had loose stools. She was filthy.
Histopathology report on mammary tumors is positive for adeno carcinoma. Dr. Pletz has consulted veterinarian Dr. Mike Buss who specializes in cancer treatments – we are awaiting his prognosis and recomendations. Chest radiographs show heart/vessels consistent with heart worm load.
Poor Feather was surely a mess when she came into rescue! The kindness of CorgiAid supporters has helped her begin down the path to renewed health. Her tumors have been removed, she is clean, she is safe. We will continue to watch over Feather as it is determined what other care she may need.
This dog is available for adoption. Please contact Elizabeth Dukesherer-Faery Tails Corgi R at information@corgirescuestlouis.org for more information.
