The Story of Sandy

ast Updated: May 23, 2015

As much as we all wish that every rescue story could have a happy ending, unfortunately reality is not that gentle or pleasant.
Tissue alert.

Here is Sandy’s story, in the words of her rescuer:
“Sandy’s owner died recently and no one in her extended family wanted her. They contacted the shelter and the shelter called me in hopes Sandy would not have to spend a moment there. The report that was that she was 11 years old, and had a large mass under her tail. I suggested that rather than have Sandy travel 100 miles to me, get diagnosed with cancer and then have to be sent to the Bridge that maybe the family would just go ahead and do that for her. They disagreed. Several days later, Sandy was at my vet’s office being examined. This poor sweetheart’s eyes told us immediately what her wish would have been. Sandy’s mass was wrapped around her spine and was pushing against her bowel, preventing her from eliminating. She had not been able to move her bowels for a while and any poop that was escaping was doing so simply because it had no where else to go. The tumor was cancer and inoperable. So we let her go with love and heavy heart, but also a little relief as we could see Sandy had simply given up any joy she had in this life. Rest in Peace Sandy.”
Sometimes the best thing that can be done is to release them from their suffering.
CorgiAid supporters have helped with Sandy’s final expenses. Thank you.
Sandy came to rescue in Oklahoma.
