Here is Lulu’s story, in the words of her rescuer:
“Lulu came into rescue after a puppy mill breeder contacted an intermediary person to help rehome some of her retired breeding females. Carolina Corgi Rescue was contacted, and we agreed to accept Lulu into rescue.
“Lulu is a gentle sweet dog, not as shy as most puppy mill moms.”
“Lulu has experienced tendon issues in her front legs and feet in the past. When she was obese (when she was with the breeder), she had difficulty walking. She has since lost weight, and does not appear to have difficulty walking at this time. However, her feet appear deformed to me, perhaps from this issue, or possibly from not having her nails trimmed and carrying excess weight while being housed in a cage.
“Lulu was immediately taken to our veterinarian for an exam. She was tested for heartworms (found negative), administered required vaccines, and was tested for intestinal parasites. A blood panel was performed to assess whether she was healthy enough for a spay. She was bathed prior to her spay surgery and dental, and prescribed antibiotics, pain medication, and dispensed one dose of heartworm prevention.”
